International Selection Criteria

To represent GBR internationally, fencers must compete in at least one of the three key qualifying events to gain ranking points. The best two results are ranked, and a panel of selectors finalises the squad and teams using the official criteria.

For 2026 we will be running two separate Selection Ranking Lists. One for European Team selection and one for World Squad and Team selection. The World Ranking will be as usual using Guildford (Jan), National Age Groups (Mar) and combined category Nationals (Jun). But because our combined category Nationals are not scheduled until June we are using 2025 Nationals, Guildford and our National Age Groups for European Team selection.
To take into account all those fencers who move up a category in January the allocated points for the 2025 Nationals have been adjusted accordingly meaning some fencers positions will have increased and some reduced. This is the only way of comparing like with like.
The adjusted tables are below.
It is possible that another alteration to rules may have to be made to Team Selection rules to allow some flexibility on selection depending upon how the FIE (organisers) decide to seed the teams from the results of the Individuals but we are not in a position to know this at the moment so the stated rules still apply.
